We’re getting close. In less than 2 weeks it will be Christmas and then…2009!!!! Wow! That’s fast:
I have some great, last minute gift ideas:
1. TacoLu Gift Certificates. Certainly you have friends and neighbors who deserve a gift that says: “I think you’re worth $10-$20 in Mexican food!” (Feel free to adjust that value up or down depending on the individual)
2. TacoLu T-shirts. We’re selling them faster than I thought! Black, Short or long sleeves in limited sizes. Rock the Lu on your street!
3. Tequila shots. Too late to do anything else? We have a really good, 100% Agave, Jose Cuervo Reposado for $4 at happy hour… Stop on by…
It’s Saturday today–brunch was certainly delicious today… Sunday we open at 10 am again, so don’t miss this TWICE PER WEEK opportunity to “get your huevos on” tomorrow morning…
Each night for the last week or so we’ve had some great Christmas parties here at TacoLu. Parties of 8, 10, 12…up to 25 in the next week. If you need a place to bring your crew between now and Christmas or the New Year, give me or Debbie a call and let’s set it up. We keep it simple. Ruth’s Chris is BOOKED already. Bring it to the Lu for some cheap eats, great drinks and a loose, fun environment to celebrate with your friends, staff or co-workers.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
This morning we had the opportunity to feed the FREEZING surfers out at Hanna Park. The temperature reading in my car as I arrived said 53 degrees–the huge onshore wind made it feel a LOT colder. I have to hand it to those guys and girls out there going at it in the waves!
Volcom’s Daniel Terry got us involved and we brought over a hundred tacos and they were gone in 60 seconds…or less!
Sweet Lu was helping me pass out the tacos, but she was left without one…so we had to hurry back to the restaurant and hook her up!
Thanks to Daniel for getting us involved, we had a blast. Next time, I’ll bring more food!!
Finally, after weeks of proofing and editing and proofing and editing, our new menus have arrived!
Click on for a bigger version, then enlarge again and you can read it all! It’s pretty exciting and a darn fine looking menu!! Or, better still, there’s a menu page on this website!!

Our little man, Henry Walker, turned 7 years old Friday so we celebrated all week long with HALF PRICE kids meals for the entire week!! Tuesday through Sunday all kid meals are $2.50!! Happy Birthday Hen!!
Henry had breakfast ready for me and Debbie yesterday when we got up. He and Lucy wake up early in the mornings, and try like crazy to not wake us up before 6 or some terrible time. Well, yesterday, it was awfully quiet. I got up and went out to the kitchen and Hen was bustling around and led me, proudly, to the breakfast table where there was toast, on a paper plate, and a cup of coffee waiting for me. Beaming, Henry proclaimed that he had made us breakfast.
Not too long ago ( I suppose in preparing to execute this meal) Henry brought me a cup of coffee for me when I got up. It was ice cold, since it was the leftover coffee from the day before… So I stuck my finger in this coffee yesterday to see if it was indeed, cold. It was piping hot.
Henry figured out how to make the coffee just watching me or Debbie do it. The funny thing is that the lid to the coffee pot is difficult to remove. He couldn’t get it off, so this cute little guy poured the water through the spout, backwards in order to fill the coffee maker with water. He only filled it about halfway, so the coffee was really, REALLY strong… It was the cutest thing and he was COMPLETELY beaming and proud of himself.
I drank my entire cup of coffee.
With glee…
It was quite a week last week, for sure. We ended the “Vote with your Margarita” month-long election and it was a blast! The results were definitely not the way the Nation voted, that’s for sure, but it was still fun.
The weekend brought the Florida/Georgia game to town. That’s always a crazy weekend. We had some VERY special visitors to TacoLu!! Myrtle Beach’s Sticky Fingers Catering Staff was here for lunch on Sunday just before we got slammed. I was in the kitchen trying not to go down too hard, but we got so busy so fast it was hard to keep up!!
It’s always great to see my friends from Sticky here. Speaking of Sticky Fingers, I luckily got a picture of this guy on the road the other day. WOW, the Sticky Logo has arrived!! To think all those years ago, when Jeff, Chad and Todd started the restaurant in Mt. Pleasant, that some crazy guys in Jacksonville, Florida would help themselves to the logo and make it their own little cute name for their fishing team.
