Fish tacos, happy hour and Ike

I am feeling a little guilty right now. And probably many of you out there are, too. The instant Hurricane Ike made a decidedly Southerly turn, and FOR SURE was not going anywhere near Florida, I stopped turning to the Weather channel every 6 or 7 minutes and started thinking about how much fun we were going to have here at TacoLu. If ever there was an “Anywhere but here” attitude, it’s during Hurricane season. Charleston, Wilmington, Galveston, New Orleans,Rhode Island–it doesn’t matter–once the imminent threat is gone, our thoughts turn back to our usual routine.
No more plans to evacuate? Where are we having dinner tomorrow night?
I can feel a little guilty about that. Ike’s going to be brutal for the Gulf Coast, and while those of us on EVERY other coast are glad it’s not going to hit us, we still need to keep a keen eye on where the Hurricane will hit. All we can do is hope for the best and that everyone gets out of the way.

Once the Hurricane took a turn away from us, I did what anyone else who just got freed from a week of tumult and worry would do: I ACTIVATED the TacoLu happy hour. Weekdays from 11am to 2 pm it goes like this:

$1.50 Dos Equis drafts, Amber and Lager!
$2.50 Tijuana Margaritas–our fabulous house Margarita!
$4 Shots of Cuervo Tradicional Reposado–100% Agave tequila–the real deal!
Also this week we’ve got a fantastic new Lamb Taco. Eric, our handsome kitchen guy, made a Feta cheese sauce to go with it and it’s fantastic! Finished with a little diced onion and fresh mint on a fresh-made corn tortilla?? Get out of here!
Debbie decided it was time to unleash a Salmon Taco to the TacoLu public. We sear a piece of salmon, add our fresh mango salsa and some fresh dill on a fresh corn tortilla and it’s a great taco.
Irene and Lacie, two of our beautiful and talented bartenders, were given the task of creating a Sangria we can be proud of… It is SLAMMIN–tons of Fresh fruit, pineapple and mango juices, simple syrup and a not-too-fruity Syrah make a great combination. It’s $6 and it’s Deeee-lish. One more delicious creation made fresh here at TacoLu, just for you.

In Fay's Path??

This is great! Our first month open and we’re staring down the barrel of Fay, the most confounding storm to form in a long time. Where will it go? When did it actually become a storm? Where’s the eye?
Hopefully this will blow over with some wind and rain. We’ll remain open, for sure. Today, is our secret sale on PBR and Presidente beers for those who are on the TacoLu mailing list!! Hope you’re on and have the secret password for $1 PBRs…

Good Luck!

Surfing Legends at TacoLu

For surfers, having Pete Townend and Shaun Tomson in the same room is the equivalent of Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer to golfers. Both of the Legendary Surfers were at TacoLu last night after the East Coast Premiere of the surf documentary “Bustin Down the Doors”, a film which traces how short boards challenged surfing’s age-old traditions in Hawaii during the 1970s-among other things.

The premiere at Regal Cinemas was packed and people made their way to the Lu to spend some time with their surfing heros.

I haven’t see the movie yet, but I’m going to try to hit it tomorrow night while we’re off. Everyone who came from the movie last night said it was awesome, so I am excited to see it.

The bar was packed-out last night with LOTS of new people who didn’t know we were open yet.

We’re breaking records daily.
