we DID it!!! We gave away one really cool surfboard, TONS of other stuff on Saturday night and began our 3rd year with a bang!! Here’s some pictures from the night:

TacoLu is celebrating 2 great years in Jax Beach!! Friday-Sunday, July 9-10-11 is our anniversary weekend!!! 2 years old is hard to believe… We have a bunch of things to raffle off Saturday night. The Raffle should start around 9:30 pm Saturday.

Bubbles will be at our party. And who wouldn't want to hang out with this guy?

Another great day at the beach!!

Florida Surfing Association runs a couple of these events in the summer time. It’s staged like a surf contest, it’s only for kids 10 and under and it is a BLAST!!

TacoLu wins the Food Fight

Food Fight is an event held annually at the Stadium in June. About 50 restaurants, liquor distributors and caterers “engage in a friendly competition showcasing signature dishes”.

We KICKED it this year!! Debbie lost sleep over decorating the table, made a bold move to serve mini-Bangin’ shrimp tacos, and added more spice to the night with our soon-to-be-famous Jalapeno margarita!!

We WON!! We narrowly beat out Ragtime and BB’s for first place, and bragging rights of the Food Fight!!

By the way…I entered the raffle for the Harley-Davidson and stole Debbie’s thunder, as if I wrote the book on stealing thunder, by WINNING the raffle. I won a brand new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. I posted a pic of the bike I brought home!!!

So much has been going on!! I’m just going to load pics from our Staff Meeting/bowling night, the Opening of the Beaches Parade…

TacoLu and Paco’s, in League with Satan?!

Debbie had a rough Sunday. First she goes head to head with a woman who is mad that her NachoLu came with everything on the side. Screaming at the top of her lungs, this woman was really mad. Deb remained cool, explaining that her NachoLu would be a sloppy mess by the time it got home if we did it any other way. When her husband came in to return the “ridiculous” food they picked up, she noticed that she had ordered not one, but two tacos that we call “taco bell” tacos: ground beef and cheddar cheese! Well, no wonder she was mad. Indeed those are two terrible tacos–It’s not what we sell. It’s not on our menu so Debbie explained and you can’t be mad when you order something that we don’t offer on our menu. Sure, we’ll try it, but you don’t get to complain if it’s not great (take note, people who get enchiladas with the sauce on the side–I’m coming for you).
Anyway, Hubby told Deb that his wife had just had a baby. Say no more, she said! We sent him home with a new NachoLu (everything on the side still, but Deb showed him how to make it), two tacos for the new mommy and some brisket tacos for good measure, so they can taste what [we think] we do well!

That was a “W” for Deb. This was not:

Our STAR server, Blake, came up to Debbie (moments after new Daddy left) and said that the people at table 26 don ’t want to pay for their Queso.

“Is there something wrong with it? ”

“No, they ate it all. ”

“Then what ’s wrong? ”

Debbie proceeds to table 26, smile on her face, to see what the problem was.

“She [Blake, server] offered us Queso or Guacamole, and there ’s a charge for it on our bill! ”

“Well, was it OK? Wasn ’t it Delicious? ” Debbie asks.

“Ya, but she tried to trick us, we ain ’t gonna pay fer it ”

Now Debbie looks straight into this guys beady, little eyes; can ’t help but notice some dental deficiencies, dirty shirt and ball cap and says,

“What do you mean she tried to trick you? ”

“She walked up with Chips and Salsa and asked us if we wanted queso or guacamole to start, and we said we ’d like some queso, and now she thinks we ’re gonna pay for it?-she tried to trick us! ”

“Well, why wouldn ’t you pay for it? What? She isn ’t trying to trick you, she ’s doing her job letting you know what we have to offer so you can get the entire experience here. It ’s also on the menu- “

“She didn ’t let us look at the menu, she tried to trick us. They tried to do that at Paco ’s, too, y ’all are all in league with Satan or something!”

what the hell is QUESO, anyway?

Note: Debbie had already taken the queso off the ticket, leaving an $11 remaining balance, so she was just trying to see what the problem was. At this moment, Debbie gets it–and she thought the same thing I did when she told me the story: “ League ” must have been a pretty big word for this guy.

“They tried that at Paco ’s, too? Well, don ’t you think they are trying to do the same thing? Let you know what ’s available to eat? Doesn ’t matter, I took the queso off your bill and I hope you guys have great weekend. ”

They snuck out without paying the rest of their tab.

Watch out, Carlos, the word on the street is out about Paco’s: Your servers are doing their jobs!!

Man, where have I been?

All over the place is the answer to that. This place is rocking and I’ve been a little too busy to keep up with posting to here!! If you want more immediate info, hit up the TacoLu fan page on Facebook…the one with about 2,000 fans–not any other one. That gets more action than this one.
I guess you are lucky in a way–if I weren’t so busy slingin tacos and margaritas, this is all I would do!!

Cocoa Beach for a day! The Dirty Sanchez Valentine’s special!

I went South last Sunday, to Cocoa Beach, in search of warmer waters and my January waves! The waves were big and really choppy, so my lameness couldn’t even get out…Maybe in October I could have, but I’ve been almost two months without surfing much and I have totally lost my endurance and strength… Really disappointing, but I got some great shots of Dante KILLING it out at Second Light, and some other dudes tearing it up on the few waves they caught.

We were just told, by people who know, that TacoLu is the #2 distributor of Dos Equis beer in THE ENTIRE STATE OF FLORIDA!!! It is amazing to me that our little Fish Taco Joint has achieved such incredible heights! When I asked what would it take to be #1, and who the hell is it anyway, I just got a blank stare from our Dos Equis people. The #1 distributor in the state of Florida: Disney. I’ll get used to second place…

Also, today we decided on our Valentine’s Day Special: Buy your very special girl a very special Dirty Sanchez (a 16 ounce PBR and a shot of Juarez tequila) and get a free shot of Juarez for yourself!!! That’s lovin’, baby. We’ll pour the PBR in a champagne flute if you want to be all fancy-like!!

Speaking of fancy: This week we got a hold of some Sheephead and Haddock for fish tacos. The Sheephead is served on wilted spinach with grilled pineapple with just a touch of our Cilantro-Lime vinaigrette while the Haddock is blackened and served much like our Baja Fish taco; on cabbage with Pico and chipotle crema! Both fresh fish tacos are fantastic and are $3.99 each!!

Looking forward to February and all it has to offer! Super Bowl, Steph Boles’ birthday, Mardi Gras, Groundhog day and Valentine’s Day!!
